Call Upon MPPs and Others to Oppose Doug Ford’s
Anti-Democratic Snap Election Bid


In December of 2005, Ontario saw the coming into force of a new quasi-constitutional democratic right to general elections the dates of which are fixed, by law, and known four years in advance. That important protection against timing elections in a way that gives the governing party a strategic advantage, has been honoured by every government since. Doug Ford’s dubious claim that he may need to call a snap general election as early as this month stands as a threat to violate the trust that voters have placed in those they elect; trust that those they elect will lawfully will honour and defend democracy and the democratic rights of Ontarians. THE “RIGHTS ARGUMENT”: A SELF-DESTRUCTIVE PERVERSION OF RIGHTS

I recently penned a Freedom Party of Ontario position paper that called for government to ban store owners and others from denying service to people who have not been “vaccinated” against Covid-19 (or against those who have). Three proponents of individual freedom wrote e-mails in response. Each rejected both my conclusion and my rationale. Their counter-arguments, in each case, were to the effect that a ban would violate an individual’s rights and improperly increase the scope of government power. I will here assert that, to the contrary, those writers hold a view of “rights” and government that improperly perverts the purpose of “rights” and of government, and that facilitates the use of law to defeat capitalism and promote fascism. A common but flawed and disgusting view on the purpose of banning discrimination

On July 27, 2021, I published on the Freedom Party of Ontario’s website a position paper concerning decisions by some providers of goods or service to deny service to those who have not received a Covid injection, or to those who have had one (see https://freedomparty.on.ca/archive/2021/07/27/for-freedom-outlaw-covid-19-vaccination-discrimination-now/). For reasons there explained, I asserted that governments must ban the practice. In what follows, I deal with one of the more common and faulty or disgusting responses I received to that article. For Freedom: Outlaw Covid-19 Vaccination Discrimination Now

SUMMARY: Some restaurateurs, gyms and others have begun posting signs saying that they will deny service to those who have had a Covid-19 injection, or saying that they will deny service to those who have not had a Covid-19 injection. Such discrimination pigeon-holes every individual, segregates society into two collectives, de-individualizes and dehumanizes everyone, and undermines the consent-based human mode of social interaction. Free market forces cannot and will not restore a society in which every adult is dealt with as a unique, thinking, choosing, individual. A serious consideration of philosophy and the nature of human beings makes it clear that government must intervene to stop businesses and others from denying service to – or otherwise discriminating against – individuals based upon whether or not they have had a Covid-19 injection. The time for the Ford government of Ontario – and for all other governments – to ban such discriminatory practices is now.

Ontario CoronaVirus2 – FACTS (as of 4:00 PM on October 15th, 2020):

There are approximately 14,570,000 people living in Ontario. 4,572,841 tests (for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 virus, not for the Covid-19 disease that some but not all infected people suffer) have been performed on Ontarians, but many people are tested more than once and – beginning April 17th, 2020 – the government buried the data about how many people had been tested, and replaced that data with data about how many tests have been performed. Adjusting that figure by the Ford Fudge factor of 3.61%, we can estimate that the number of persons tested as of October 15th, 2020 was 4,572,841 / 103.61 * 100 = 4,413,513.
