Master of Ceremonies Bill Frampton gave a toast to freedom before introducing then Freedom Party of Ontario leader Robert Metz, who gave a speech and showed attendees recent media coverage received by the party. At some point in 1989, “Talk Back” host Ann Hutchison invited Liz Rowley (leader of the Communist Party of Canada) to be her guest for one hour to talk about communism and her party. Rowley fielded calls from listeners, including Freedom Party member Jack Plant. Years later, Jack would become leader of Freedom Party of Ontario.

On January 15, 1989, Marc Emery (then Action Director of Freedom Party of Ontario and owner/operator of City Lights bookstore in London Ontario), Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley, and London Ontario’s then Deputy Mayor Jack Burghardt were panelists on the television program Inquiry. In 1988, following the success of his 1988 Freedom Party Calendar of Individual Freedom (which was, of course, produced in 1987), then Freedom Party of Ontario Action Director Marc Emery conducted additional research into the history of individual freedom, for the purposes of creating a professionally-printed 1989 Calendar of Individual Freedom that would be sold by Freedom Party of Ontario. Two editions were made: one Canadian, the other American. These calendars again featured a number of historical events that, in Emery’s opinion, constituted either “highlights” or “dark days” in the history of individual freedom. Continue reading »
