Apr 162020

Starting April 16, 2020, the Government of Ontario has stopped providing the public with information about the number of persons tested for Coronavirus.

On and before April 15, 2020, the Ontario government’s daily report on Coronavirus2 testing included the number of persons who tested positive for the virus, and the number of persons whose results were not yet received. This data has allowed me to update, daily – on my personal facebook page and on my @mckeever_tweets Twitter account, a graph showing the percentage of persons tested whose tests have come back positive, and the percentage whose tests have come back negative. Beginning today (April 16th) the government is instead telling us how many *tests* (not persons, but tests) came back positive. That data is relatively useless, because many individuals are tested multiple times.

Now, there will be no way to know what percentage of those tested have tested positive, and what percentage have tested negative. This is either an unnecessary and stupid oversight, or a deliberate and unacceptable hiding of very important data. Please contact Doug Ford and tell him that you want the government to continue including the number of *persons* (not the number of tests) whose test results came back positive, the number of persons whose test results aren’t available yet, and the number of persons whose test results came back negative.
