September 17, 2009 St. Paul's By-election

Paul in St. Paul's

Paul McKeever, party leader, to be
Freedom Party's candidate in St. Paul's By-election

August 19, 2009, Toronto Freedom Party of Ontario today announced that Paul McKeever will be its candidate for the September 17, 2009 by-election being held in the Ontario provincial riding of St. Paul's.  McKeever is the leader of Freedom Party of Ontario.

"This is an excellent opportunity for me, and Freedom Party, to bring to St. Paul's a rather different message than the usual muddle we can expect from the almost indistinguishable Liberals and Progressive Conservatives", says McKeever.

"I also hope to use the by-election as an opportunity to highlight the importance of scuttling the Toronto bid for the 2015 Pan Am Games.  If our bid is not withdrawn, it will cost Torontonian, Ontarian, and Canadian taxpayers in general, the lion's share of a $1.7 billion projected cost of the bid.  Given that all three levels of government are running deficits, and that none of them has any credible track record for cutting overall government spending, we're looking at yearly interest payments in the hundreds of millions annually.  My message: Yes to Pan Am, but No to funding the games with government revenues."

About Paul McKeever

McKeever is 43 years of age.  He is married and is a father.  A widely-recognized advocate of Objectivist philosophy, none of his views are religious and he is not an active member of any religious body.

McKeever holds an Honours Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Arts degree in psychology.  He also holds a Bachelor of Laws degree and was called to the Ontario bar in 1997.

McKeever is an employment lawyer in his 13th year of practice. During the McGuinty years, his practice has been getting busier due to widespread lay-offs and dismissals resulting from emigrations of industrial and customer service companies to locales with lower taxes, fewer costly regulations, and less government interference with natural market forces.

McKeever has been a guest panelist on a number of current affairs shows since 1999, including Michael Coren, and On the Line with Christine Williams.  He has been interviewed by TVO's master interviewer Steve Paikin twice, most recently during the election of 2007.  He has also been interviewed by John Oakley in respect of the Caledonia crisis, and by a number of radio hosts in London, Ontario, including Shauna Rae.

McKeever has also written op-eds which have appeared in Canada's major dailies, including the Toronto Star and the Financial Post.

McKeever produces videos, focusing primarily on philosophical and political topics.  His youtube channel, https://www.youtube.com/paulmckeever is among the most widely subscribed and viewed channels in Canada.  With 957 subscribers, his channel is more popular than that of the Premier of Ontario ( http://ww.youtube.com/premierofontario , with 67 subscribers), and the Prime Minister of Canada's channel ( http://ww.youtube.com/pmocpm , with 614 subscribers) combined.

McKeever also blogs on philosophy, politics and pop culture at his blog, http://blog.paulmckeever.ca
