Ongoing price-controls short-circuit future for generation in province Dalton McGuinty's new Liberal government in Ontario today announced plans to replace the 4.3 cent fixed price of electricity with two other fixed prices: 4.7 cents for the first 750 kW hours, and 5.5 cents for additional kW hours. Freedom Party of Ontario leader, Paul McKeever, responded to the news with shock: "The problem with the 4.3 cent price cap was not just the price: the big problem was the message a government sends to investors when it shows a willingness to engage in price controls, period. McGuinty had a chance here to win back the private sector's confidence, and to give a spark of hope to Ontario's electrical future: he just blew it", said McKeever. The Freedom Party of Ontario is the only party in Ontario that continues to advocate free market solutions to the problems facing the provision of electricity in Ontario. Its 2003 election platform, The Right Direction, which it continues to advocate as a responsible program for Ontario, can be found at: https://freedomparty.on.ca/platform.pdf (Adobe .pdf format) https://freedomparty.on.ca/platform/html/cover.htm (HTML format) Paul McKeever is available to discuss this release.
